Things to do in Belgrade

You’ve arrived. Belgrade will sweep off your feet, get you drunk and leave you on a barge, dancing to nonsensical music. At the very least, it will change the way you think about the word, history.

Located in northern Serbia, this emerging (although ancient) capital combines the essence of true bohemia with a fast-paced beat. Shopping, museums, fortresses, parks, half-finished grandiose buildings - Belgrade has it all.

After swallowing down a plate of roštilj (the ultimate meat platter), start your Belgrade holiday exploring the Kalemegdan and sunning yourself on the banks of the Danube River, or, if you’re in a mind to spend a lot straight away, try your retail tastes at Knez Mihailova - a pedestrian mall lined with stalls, stores and tasty vendors.

Sprskih Vladara is the unofficial tourist trail, a street connecting the Belgrade Fortress, Knez Mihailova, Republic Square, Church of Saint Sava and the Old Royal Palace. Once you’ve ticked off these essentials, why not take in a tried-and-tested Belgrade pastime? Drink, dance and be merry. The Black Turtle II attracts a laidback clientele – try the signature beer and fruit syrup combination. After the clubbing pleasantries are done and dusted, make your way down to the riverbank. We recommend either Amsterdam, a barge pulsing with attitude and a reputation to match, or the established Acapulco, a good-time institution for the mid-20s crowd. Živeli! Here’s some more of our fave places to go in Belgrade.
