Cambodia Currency Guide
Cambodia uses the Cambodian Riel. However, the US Dollar is also widely accepted in small denominations.
ATMs can be found in central city areas throughout Cambodia. If you plan on withdrawing money or using your credit card while travelling, don't forget to notify your bank before you go for security purposes. Although ATM facilities exist in Cambodia, they are sparse in some areas, so carrying US Dollars or Cambodian Riel with you into the country is highly recommended.
Before you leave home, it's a good idea to convert some of your Australian Dollars into Cambodian Riel to have with you when you arrive. Cambodian Riel is available to pre-purchase from Travel Money Oz before you fly, otherwise it is strongly advisable to take US Dollars with you, which are also available from Travel Money Oz.
For large purchases, it's a good idea to bring a credit card or travel card with you on your holiday instead of carrying a lot of cash. If you don't have a credit card, consider a prepaid travel money card. A Multi-currency Cash Passport™ allows you to access your money in the form of US Dollars and other major currencies loaded onto the card. You can then withdraw your money from ATMs and use as payment wherever MasterCard® is accepted.
