Czech Republic Currency Guide

The Czech Republic uses the Czech Koruna.

In major cities and towns around the country, there are Czech banks with ATMs where you can use your Aussie bankcard to access your funds. Before you leave home, check in with your bank to see whether you can use your card in the Czech Republic and what international withdrawal fees you may be charged.

Czech cafes, bars and shops nearly always prefer cash over cards. It’s also handy to carry a little cash for public transport. Czech Korunas are available to pre-purchase from Travel Money Oz before you do. If you need to change money in the Czech Republic, your best option is to go to a Czech bank. Get a cash advance on your Visa or MasterCard and you won’t pay commission. There are also private exchange booths around, but you’ll generally get stung with high fees and commissions.

Credit Card

For large purchases and for safety reasons, it’s a good idea to take a credit card with you when you travel. Major restaurants and hotels in major cities like Prague will happily take your credit card, but you might find smaller villages will only take cash.
