Known in France as the Côte d'Azur, this delightful piece of Mediterranean coastline in the south-east pocket of France extends from Saint Tropez in the east to Cassis in the west. It also includes the ever-so-glamorous sovereign state of Monaco.

Once a winter health resort for the British upper-class at the close of the 18th century, this epic coastline was one of the world’s first modern resort areas. In the mid 19th century, you’d find the likes of Queen Victoria and King Edward here. Fast forward to the mid 20th century and this stretch of coastline was a favourite of famous artists and writers like Pablo Picasso, Aldous Huxley and Henri Mattisse. Today, it still has that rich and famous factor with movie stars and celebs flocking here from all over the world. Some of them, like Brigitte Bardot and Elton John, even have homes here.

The largest city in the region is Nice, which, incidentally, has its own airport so you can fly right into paradise. Blending big city with sunny tourism and old-world opulence, Nice attracts people from all over the world. It is the place to see an epic sunset after partying ‘til dawn, specifically at the Promenade des Anglais.

If you’re a lover of all things fragrant, make a beeline for Grasse, the perfume capital of the world. Not only does it smell divine, it looks incredible too with fields of jasmine, mimosa, orange blossom and violet fields to coo over. All up, the town is home to more than 30 perfumeries with a few also offering tours of the facilities.
