Frankfurt Weather Guide

If you’re a heat seeker, Frankfurt is the place to be in Germany – it's one of the warmest places in the country. With warm summers and cool winters, Frankfurt has a temperate-oceanic climate.

Season and Clothing

Summer: June to August

In summertime, things heat up here. There’s excitement by the Main River day in and day out as the sun shines down on Frankfurt town. In summer, the temps average around 25 degrees Celsius, although it can get a little hotter some days. June is the sunniest month of the year, but there is also some rainfall. Don’t miss the Apple Wine Festival in August where you can celebrate the local tipple known as schoppe, äppler, stöffche and ebbelwoi.

Average temperatures: 12 – 25 degrees Celsius.
Appropriate clothing: Dresses, shorts and lightweight clothing with comfy shoes.
Don’t forget: A jacket or cardi for night-time.

Autumn: September to November

Surprisingly, the weather is far more temperate in autumn than spring with average temps around 18 degrees Celsius. It does cool off as the season progresses though with averages of 14 degrees in November and lows between 4 to 6 degrees Celsius. The sun shines less in November too – often only poking its head out for 2 hours each day.

Average temperatures:2 – 19 degrees Celsius.
Appropriate clothing: Items for layering including jeans, long-sleeve tops and boots.
Don’t forget: Your happy pants. There’s a massive folk festival in September – Autumn Dippemess - with food stalls and fairground rides!

Winter: December to February

Things sure cool off in winter in Frankfurt, but if you pack the right clothes you’ll be fine. It often falls below 4 degrees Celsius and the minimum temps are around -2 degrees. The below-zero temps often create ice on the roads, so be careful if you’re hiring a car. January is the coldest month with very little sunshine, but if you’re visiting in late November or December, make sure you head to the Christmas Market – one of Germany’s largest.

Average temperatures:-2 – 6 degrees Celsius.
Appropriate clothing: Thermals, chunky knits, a warm coat, gloves and a scarf.
Don’t forget: Your snow boots.

Spring: March to May

Spring is arguably the best time to check out Frankfurt. There’s plenty of sunshine and temperatures have warmed up to around 14 degrees Celsius with average highs of 19 degrees. Spring sometimes brings heavy showers though, but the rainfall is actually quite refreshing. Spring Dippemess runs from April to early May and is the largest folk festival in the Rhine-Main region with heaps of local crafts, rides, stalls and attractions to let loose in.

Average temperatures:2 – 19 degrees Celsius.
Appropriate clothing: Items for layering – jeans, long-sleeve tops, t-shirts.
Don’t forget: An umbrella!
