Venice, Malibu, Muscle and the list goes on...
With their iconic palm trees, pop-culture famous surf and memorable sunsets, it's hard to resist the beaches of LA. And there's plenty to choose from too, from the celeb spotting of Malibu to the sprawling boardwalk of Venice beach.
A great place to start your beach side exploration is with a stroll along the Venice Boardwalk. It is here you will find an eclectic crowd ranging from caricaturists trying to make a buck to muscle men pumping iron at Muscle Beach, hare krishnas singing, retirees playing shuffle board and girls roller skating in bikinis. All up the boardwalk is very LA and a quintessential Californian experience. Pick up a hotdog, take a seat under a palm tree and enjoy some fascinating people watching.
If hanging out with the rich and famous for free sounds like your idea of a good time, then the shores of Malibu Beach is where you need to be. Nicknamed the Bu' by locals, the 34 kilometre strip of beach is separated into 6 beaches, the most popular of which is Zuma Beach.
With an idyllic location where the hills meet the ocean, Zuma beach was commonly used as a filming site for the TV show Baywatch. Take to the shores and re-enact the famous red swimsuit scenes or make like a beach boy and opt for a surfing lesson. Celebrities are also known to frequent Zuma beach so keep an eye out for famous faces such as Matthew McConaughey or Jennifer Lopez, who live close by.
