Miami's bold and beautiful hotspot
For the Miami of bronzed bodies, beaches and luxury resorts and bars, South Beach or ‘SoBe' is where you need to be. The city's beachside hotspot is where the beautiful, rich and famous come to play, swim and party. But just because it looks glitzy, doesn't mean you can't enjoy it on a budget. It doesn't cost anything to enjoy the stretch of beach.
But South Beach is more than a place to swim. It's a great place to people watch, from local surfers chasing the perfect wave to models getting in their daily exercise with a casual rollerblade along Ocean Drive. The area is also a major entertainment destination with literally hundreds of nightclubs, hotels and restaurants sprawled across the main street.
To make the most of your time at South Beach, don’t miss the spectacular sunset over the Atlantic Ocean. Even better if you can enjoy it over a cocktail at one of the glamorous beachside hotels. Ocean Drive is also a fantastic street to explore (on rollerblades or not). Its Art Deco architecture reveals the area's heyday with the most famous building on the strip being the oceanfront Versace Mansion, once home to fashion designer Gianni Versace and the most photographed home in North America.
South Beach is also home to a prominent gay community with many of the mainstream clubs advertised as gay friendly. The best place to experience the vibrant community is at the Palace Bar on Ocean Drive. The only gay restaurant and bar on Ocean Drive, the Palace Bar is best known for its fun Sunday brunches featuring cocktails and drag performances.
