Slovakia Transport Guide
Public transport in Slovakia swings between hellish and hassle-free. To avoid paying unexpected fines, let our transport guide steer you in the right direction.
How to get around Slovakia
Bratislava public transport services include buses, trolleybuses and trams, which navigate the metro network semi-regularly between 5am and midnight. Don’t depend too much on public transport if you’re out on the town as routes are sporadic at best. Travelling between regional areas and other cities can be easy, provided you catch the dark blue buses and have the exact change for the ticket. Be careful you don’t board long-distance vehicles as these only stop in major centres and cities. Express trains may be the better option, provided you give yourself plenty of time either side of the scheduled departure. If you’re sticking around longer than a few days, a travel card is a worthy investment. When buying a ticket, remember charges can be determined by time or distance. If you’re not sure, ask a station attendant.
