Tel Aviv Currency Guide

Tel Aviv uses the New Israel Shekel (NIS) or shekel for short.

ATM facilities can be found throughout metropolitan parts of Tel Aviv particularly outside banks, and in hotels, shopping centres and the airport but it’s handy to have small amounts of cash for market areas and tourist sites. If you plan on withdrawing money or using your credit card while traveling, don’t forget to notify your bank before you go for security purposes.

Before you travel it is important to convert some of your Australian Dollars into Israel Shekalim to have with you when you arrive. The Shekel is available to pre-purchase from Travel Money Oz before you fly.

Credit Cards

For large purchases, it’s a good idea to bring a credit card with you on your holiday to Israel instead of carrying a lot of cash. If you don’t have a credit card, consider a debit credit card that allows you to access your savings account and the local currency from ATMs and wherever credit cards are accepted.
