Vancouver Weather Guide
Situated on the west coast of Canada, Vancouver has an oceanic climate with relatively mild temperatures throughout the year. With pleasant weather common to all seasons, Vancouver is an ideal year-round destination.
Season and Clothing
Summer: July to September
Many believe summer is the best time to visit Vancouver due to the warm temperatures, blue skies and a daily average of 20 degrees Celsius. Rainfall is extremely rare during this time of year, making it a fantastic time to lounge around at the beach areas. Vancouver is also known as the city of summer festivals, so there will definitely be something exciting on during your stay. The biggest event is the 4-day Celebration of Light festival in late July, which is the largest offshore fireworks competition in the world! Attracting up to 400,000 spectators to English Bay each evening, the event offers another great opportunity to party in Vancouver.
Average temperatures: 13 - 23 degrees Celsius.
Appropriate clothing: Light summer clothing, a light jacket for the evening and walking shoes.
Don't forget: Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat.
Autumn: October to November
The fall season brings with it the changing of the leaves from green to vibrant reds and oranges. Although temperatures begin to cool, it still is a great time to visit, particularly if you're on a budget. Fall also marks the beginning of the National Hockey League season, so be sure to make the most of things and catch the national game while you're in town. If you choose to visit in October, you will also get to experience the thrilling holiday of Halloween, Vancouver-style.
Average temperatures: 3 - 14 degrees Celsius.
Appropriate clothing: Clothes for layering, a warm coat, scarf and walking shoes.

Winter: December to March
During Vancouver winters, the days vary between quite cool with brisk winds to heavy rain with warm sun breaking through. Although there is limited snow in the city, it does fall in the nearby Grouse Mountain, making it an excellent base for a skiing vacation. The snow-capped mountains are a beautiful sight to see and an amazing addition to the already incredible city of Vancouver. December also offers a great opportunity to enjoy a magical white Christmas with much of the city covered with decorations and lights.
Average temperatures: 1 - 10 degrees Celsius.
Appropriate clothing: Layers of warm clothing, a heavy coat and comfortable waterproof boots.
Don't forget: A scarf, gloves, woollen socks and an umbrella.
Spring: April to June
A Vancouver spring bursts with life as flowers come into bloom and locals begin to enjoy the outdoors again. This is a great time to go to Vancouver if you are hoping to avoid crowds of tourists and see the sights. Winter sports are also still possible with many people choosing to hit the slopes and go skiing and snowboarding until the end of the season around late April. Spring offers the perfect photo ops with cherry blossom-lined streets to wander and breathe in the crisp air before heading over for a picnic in Stanley Park.
