Things to do in Zurich

One of the fabulous things about Zurich is that it’s built around a big lake (Lake Zurich). This along with its 1200 fountains with fresh flowing drinking water and its many places to bathe, has given Zurich the name ‘water city.’

If you’re heading to Zurich in the summer time, you’ll be pleased to know there are around 40 places to swim, 18 of which are in the open air, including Lake Zurich and the river. Many swimming spots have leisure centres attached to them too. During the day tourists and locals flock here to catch rays and as the sun goes down many of these places are transformed into bars and lounges which host different cultural events including poetry slams, theatre and concerts.

Zurich is also well known for its sense of style and design, particularly on Zürich’s shopping mile, the Bahnhofstrasse. This area has largely contributed to Zurich’s fashion reputation, but you can also find cool fashion in the Aussersihl quarter and Zurich-West. And if you’d like to squeeze into all this trendy fashion, it might be worth taking a hike up the Uetliberg Mountain – it’s quite spectacular.
