You will never experience a festival quite like Bestival in the Isle of Wight. Inspiring peace, love and dancing…. and fancy dress. The music is one thing, but it’s the carnival atmosphere of Bestival that makes it so unique. Bestival is the best party you could ever imagine! Held at the end of summer, Bestival marks the end to the UK Festival season. Since 2004, Bestival has been held at Robin Hill on the Isle of Wight, and it has been blowing festival-goer’s minds. Roll up for some of the best and biggest artists in the world- think Stevie Wonder, Elton John, Beastie Boys, Amy Winehouse, Bjork and The Cure. Hit the inflatable church, try your hand at knitting lessons, catch an act on the boat shaped stage or visit the festival forest, Whatever you choose, remember everything at Bestival is a party!

Staying on site? You’re in for a treat! Go old-school and bring then pitch your own tent. Alternatively, hire a podpad- a lockable plywood structure with beds, or go all out and enjoy your own king-sized bed in a safari tent. Get into the festival spirit and soak up the atmosphere. Be sure to take a snap of yourself with the world-famous disco ball, which stands three storeys high and is covered in two and half thousand mirrored tiles.

Tips and tricks

  • Don’t think you can get away with your well-worn festival clothes at Bestival. Get your glitter out and plan your costumes. Get into the yearly theme and let your imagination go. Bestival is the perfect time to go all-out with fancy dress.

  • Don’t worry if you forget to pack something- you can buy anything you will ever need at the on-site festival shops. Think extra bedding, camping goods or pharmacy supplies.

  • Newport is the closest town if you need a break from the party. Catch the shuttle bus, which runs every 15 minutes, and enjoy the local shops or cafes.

  • Bestival is located on an island so your journey will include a ferry. Make sure you book your ferry ticket before you plan the rest of your transport. Get the ferry from Portsmouth Harbour. When you arrive on the Isle Wight, get a bus, train or cab to the festival site.

  • You can book lockers on site to story your valuables and you can also book phone chargers. The prices for a charger range from $10 to $40 and the lockers are around $40.

  • Be prepared to eat, but make sure you bring enough cash! Bestival has some of the best festival food you will find. This is not the tried and true festival fare; you can expect top food from top chefs, from almost anywhere in the world.
